Description

LAMP ASSY – REAR COMBINATION OUTSIDE, LH

Overview

This describes the left-hand rear combination lamp assembly — the outer portion. In parts catalogs this short description is paired with a part number and tells you three things at once: it’s a lamp assembly (not a serviceable sub-part), it’s the rear combination lamp, it’s the outside section rather than the inner lid-mounted section, and it’s for the left-hand side.

What a “combination lamp” is

A combination lamp is a single housing that bundles several lighting functions together:

• Tail / position lamp — the low-intensity rear marker light
• Stop (brake) lamp — brightens when the brake pedal is pressed
• Turn signal / indicator — flashes for direction changes
• Reverse lamp — illuminates when reverse is selected (sometimes on the inner unit instead)
• Rear fog lamp — on markets where required
• Side marker / reflector — for side visibility

On many modern vehicles the rear lighting is split into two pieces per side: an outer lamp mounted on the quarter panel (fixed body), and an inner lamp mounted on the trunk lid or tailgate. The description “OUTSIDE” tells you this is the body-mounted outer unit, which usually carries the main stop, tail, and often indicator functions.

LH meaning

“LH” is left-hand, determined from the driver’s seat facing forward. On a left-hand-drive vehicle that’s the driver’s side; on a right-hand-drive vehicle it’s the passenger side. The part number for the LH unit will differ from the RH unit — they are not interchangeable.
